International Chamber Music Workshop
Spend 10 days sharing your love of chamber music in the medieval city of Loches, in the Indre-et-Loire region of France.

Location: Saint-Denis International School – 37600 Loches, France.
The entrance is via rue Henri Dunant.
Reception takes place on 29 July 2024 between 5:00 and 7:00pm.
The workshop ends on Thursday, Aug 10th.
Daily programme (except rest day):
– 2 hours of lessons per day, each chamber music group being supervised by a professional. The official language of the workshop is french, therefore this is the language used in the lessons, although some of the teachers and some participants may be able to help you if you don’t speak french.
– Possibility to participate in the orchestra (1h30 per day)
– Possibility to participate in the choir (1 hour per day)
– Concerts of participants and teachers
A free day (day of rest) with the possibility of participating in an informal concert (the “off”)(short pieces of music, organized by the workshop participants).
Accommodations:
Depending on the chosen formula, accommodation is on site or off-site.
Meals (lunch & dinner) are taken together on-site.
For amateur musicians, adults and students from all over the world
The international chamber music workshop brings together amateur musicians from France and abroad for a period of ten days. Registration is possible for minors from 16 years old (accompanied by a parent or responsible adult).
The workshop is aimed at musicians who already know how to play their instrument, and are proficient enough to play in a group (prior experience is not necessary).
The instruments usually present at this workshop are: piano, harp, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn and voice, but the workshop is also open to saxophone, trumpet, trombone and tuba. All instrumentalists should bring their own instrument (except piano !)
The aim of the workshop is to allow amateur musicians
– to work on two pieces of chamber music.
The choice of musical pieces is communicated by the musical organiser approximately one month before the start of the workshop. This enables each participant to work on their pieces before coming to the workshop. It is also possible to propose a group organised in advance of the workshop, or express your preferences regarding the pieces of music or composers.

All groups are encouraged to perform in public during the “musical moments”. These take place at the end of each day throughout the workshop.
At the end of the workshop, the orchestra, choir and each instrumental section (flutes, clarinets, violins etc) also give concerts. These close the workshop “on a high note”, in a lighthearted and enjoyable atmosphere.
– to share in other musical activities
In addition to the lessons, the participants have the opportunity to get together in their free time and play other pieces of music. They can also join the orchestra and/or choir, listen to the other participants when they perform in the “musical moments”, and listen to the excellent concert(s) given by the teachers.
Professional supervision
Each participant has two groups, supervised by a teacher for one hour per day, per group (except the rest day). The tuition is given by teachers who are used to working with musicians of all levels and ages, and who practice chamber music themselves.
During this lesson the teacher will help you to go in to the detail and fine interpretation of the music, identifying the roles of each player throughout the piece. This will also help you to develop your listening abilities and improve your group playing skills. It is also an opportunity to become familiar with the composer, the context of the work, etc.
The teacher in charge of your group is not necessarily a specialist in your instrument, but you always have the possibility to contact the appropriate teacher for help and advice. They will organise a meeting with you according to their availability.
Playing in groups is a team effort, so each musician should prepare for the workshop by working on their pieces of music beforehand.
